Also referred to as a makinette, kupres, cafetier, mocha - a coffee machine.

Its history dates back to 1919, that's when Italian Alfonso Bialetti took action on the coffee brewer. The premise was simple - to be able to make espresso in every home, without having to spend money in coffee shops.

Bialetti was inspired to create the coffee machine by a washing machine, which used the effect of steam pushing water out of the machine during the washing process. The first examples were not made until 1933. Made of aluminium, they consisted of three parts: a hot water boiler at the bottom, a container for ground coffee and a beverage container at the top.

Contributing to the spread of the cafetière was Alfonso's son Renato, who made some practical changes to the cafetière and set his sights on marketing. Thanks to him, the Bialetti brand also has its trademark - a little man with a moustache and his hand raised.

Despite being on the market for many years, the popularity of the coffee machine has not waned, with nine out of 10 Italian households boasting coffee made in a coffee machine.
