Costa Rica Volcan Azul SL28 Red Honey - coffee with history, flavour and passion

There are coffees that taste good, and there are coffees that tell a story. Volcan Azul SL28 Red Honey is one of the latter - combining more than a century of Costa Rican plantation tradition with a modern approach to coffee cultivation and processing. These are beans ripened on fertile, volcanic soils West Valley, at heights from 1400 to 1700 m above sea level., in the shadow of the Poás volcano. The producer is Alejo Castro Kahle, the descendant of a family that has been creating some of the world's best coffees for generations, nurturing both quality and care for the environment.

Variety SL28, rarely found in Costa Rica, is a Kenyan classic known for its intense, complex flavour. Thanks to its processing Red Honey the grains undergo a unique drying process with some of the fruit pulp, which gives them a velvety texture and natural sweetness. The result? A coffee full of flavour, with distinct notes of sultanas, yellow plum and honey, harmoniously combining fruity juiciness with a smooth, delicate finish.

This is a coffee for those looking for something more than a simple pour-over. Every sip of Volcan Azul is a journey - from the Costa Rican volcanic slopes, to the artistry of artisanal processing, to a cup full of flavour and history. If you're looking for a unique coffee experience, you've just found it.

What makes our coffee special?

Region

The coffee comes from West Valley, one of Costa Rica's most renowned coffee regions. It is here, at altitudes ranging from 1400 to 1700 m above sea level., the coffee matures in ideal conditions - on the fertile, volcanic soils of the slopes of the Poás volcano.

Botanical varieties

SL28 - A rare variety in Costa Rica, originating from Kenya, known for its intense flavour and complex acidity. Combined with volcanic soils and the Red Honey method, it acquires a unique, velvety profile full of sweetness and fruity accents

Processing method

Red Honey is a technique that combines precision with the natural sweetness of the coffee fruit. Some of the pulp is left on the beans during drying, allowing for a rich, fruity flavour with a subtle caramel touch. The process requires exceptional care and the result is a coffee with deep, complex character and a smooth texture.

How does this coffee taste?

This is a coffee that draws you in from the first sip. Initially, you sense a delicate fruity sweetness - sultanas and juicy yellow plum - which harmoniously develops into a honeyed, velvety finish. The medium acidity and full body make for a balanced, elegant and extremely pleasant brew. An ideal choice for those looking for an overflow that will surprise and delight.

Costa Rica

Finca Volcan Azul is a farm with a history dating back to the 19th century. Run by the Alejo Castro Kahle family, for generations it has provided coffees considered to be among the best in the world. The beans grown here come from organic plantations, surrounded by virgin rainforests, the protection of which is as important as the coffee production itself.

The farm not only nurtures a tradition of quality, but is also committed to sustainability, with part of the proceeds going towards forest conservation and reducing the carbon footprint. It's not just coffee - it's history, tradition and the future in one sip.

Every coffee we roast is unique and has a story, just like the people behind it. That's why we approach each bean with great respect during roasting and highlight what it has to offer.
