Venezuela Santa Cruz de Mora - a story that began at a competition

"Venezuela... I've never drunk it. I never smoked it. It was a mystery. At the 2024 Roasting Championships, it was the first time I had encountered coffee from this country. My first thought? Something new and interesting. Second? Completely unsure what to expect. Maybe Brazil, maybe Colombia? Or maybe something completely different?" - Yes our Roaster Robert Rybczynski tells about his first encounter with coffeeVenezuela Santa Cruz de Mora.

And indeed, it was a surprise. On dry, the aroma suggested chocolate, nuts and a subtle hint of cedarwood - something familiar yet intriguingly new. After the first cupping came the discovery: caramel, dried plum, apricot. The flavour changing with each sip, from silky chocolate on the heat to intense dried fruit in the cooler temperature. Venezuela surprised - and delighted.

A taste that tells a story
Imagine a cup full of memories. In it is caramel sweetnesswhich envelops your senses like a warm blanket. There are dried plums, reminiscent of grandma's compotes, and apricots, Which bring a touch of summer sunshine. And all wrapped in a subtle a hint of cedarwoodwhich adds elegance and depth. This coffee is not just a beverage - it is a journey through flavours and aromas that slowly reveal their secrets.

Santa Cruz de Mora - a plantation full of life
This coffee comes from the Mérida region, from the small town of Santa Cruz de Mora, where the plantations stretch from 1,200 to 1,650 m above sea level. It is here, surrounded by majestic mountains, that the coffee matures in ideal conditions - under the shade of cedar trees, which contribute to its unique flavour profile.

Hand harvesting is the essence of precision. Each grain is carefully selected and the processing begins with floating, a technique that eliminates unripe fruit and any imperfections. The fruit then goes into fermentation tanks, where it spends 18 hours developing character and purity of flavour. The process finishes with the beans being carefully sorted by size.

Why Venezuela?
Although Venezuela has a long coffee tradition dating back to the 18th century, over the years it has disappeared from the map of the world's specialty coffees. Political and economic challenges meant that coffee plantations declined and the quality of the beans dropped significantly. However, there is a second side to this story - we are now seeing a revival of the Venezuelan coffee industry, and plantations such as Santa Cruz de Mora are a symbol of this.

This is a coffee that is returning to world markets after years of oblivion. Each cup is proof that tradition and passion can overcome the greatest difficulties.

A cup of this coffee is a cup full of curiosity, taste and admiration for what nature and man can create in perfect harmony. Are you ready to try it? ☕

Brew it in a Chemex, V60 or as a fine espresso and let it tell you its story.
